Morehead, KY
I spent the weekend with my beautiful sister-in-law in the college town of Morehead, KY, home of Morehead State University. The town is nestled in the Appalachian foothills, and it sort of feels like being hugged by the mountains when you’re there. You can turn 360° like a top (but slowly so you don’t lose your Ale-8) and see the green-shouldered hills in all directions, a safe harbor.
We were there for the first Appalachian Literature and Arts Festival, so we sat through some workshops and panels and readings, met writers and readers from all over the area, and then, as if the weekend wasn’t magical enough, there was a pop-up Bonnie Prince Bill show Saturday night under the stars and under a giant sycamore, and when I tell you that I was enchanted, that is a wild understatement. It was a vibe, as the kids say. A total vibe.
Highlights also included finally connecting with Jacinda Townsend, whose work I love. And Robert Gipe! He was so kind and chatty.
